What to expect on social media before the end of the year

The year is already in its second half, but social media marketing is speeding up rather than slowing down. From late September to New Year’s Eve, people spend more time on social media, shop more and look for inspiration. To make the most of the final quarter, here are the key moments to prepare for.

Halloween: playful content that captures attention

Halloween has become a popular occasion for themed campaigns, competitions and visual experiments. It works well on social media thanks to its imaginative aesthetic: pumpkins, costumes, ghosts, and black and orange colours.

👉 How to use it in your marketing:

  • Themed bundles or limited editions – give your product a Halloween twist with special packaging, a 13% discount or an edition available for just one week.
  • Best costume or photo competition – fans enjoy sharing photos of their costumes, pumpkins and decorations. Link the competition to your brand, for example by asking them to include your product in their costume.
  • Make-up / DIY tipy – ideal for beauty, retail and hobby brands.
  • Reels and Stories with a surprise – try jump-scare videos or before-and-after transformations.
  • Fun graphics and memes – you do not need to sell spooky products. A light-hearted visual can be enough to show that your brand follows current trends.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday

The biggest shopping event of the year. People expect discounts, limited offers and flash sales.

In 2025, Black Friday falls on 28 November, though promotions often run for one or two weeks.
👉 Tips:

  • Prepare a teaser campaign with a countdown.
  • Consider exclusive offers for your social media followers.
  • Prepare everything well in advance.

St Nicholas Day and the run-up to Christmas

A smaller but playful opportunity to remind people of your brand, ideal for awareness and creative content.
👉 Tips:

  • Run a St Nicholas Day competition or offer a bundle for “nice” or “naughty” customers.
  • Use Reels and Stories: short, funny content works well.

Christmas

The highlight of the year: emotion, gifts, family, comfort and plenty of shopping.
👉 Tips:

  • Highlight benefits such as free shipping and guaranteed delivery before Christmas.
  • Create content with a story: gift ideas, Christmas bundles and behind-the-scenes preparations.
  • User-generated content also works well: fans enjoy sharing their festive mood.
  • Advent competitions – a series of competitions in December that keeps your followers engaged until Christmas.

The final quarter is the busiest time of the year for social media marketing. With good preparation, you can increase sales and build stronger customer relationships. The key is to combine sales campaigns (Black Friday and Christmas) with emotional content (thank-you messages, stories and community involvement).
